Team of 4
Overview

Khaled led the development of a comprehensive ERP system for Khan AlHussien, an Egyptian hypermarket chain with 7-8 branches that was previously running entirely on pen-and-paper operations. The system features offline-first architecture with cloud synchronization, POS integration, payment machine integration, CCTV integration for operations monitoring, a mobile manager app, and an innovative AR marketing character for customer engagement. The solution replaced an expensive German ERP vendor quote, delivering significant cost savings while enabling complete digital transformation.

Problem Solved

A traditional hypermarket chain's second generation wanted to modernize operations that had been running on pen-and-paper systems, but enterprise ERP solutions from vendors like German manufacturers were prohibitively expensive for the Egyptian market.

My Role: Technical Lead
  • Architected offline-first ERP system with cloud synchronization across 7-8 branches
  • Designed hardware abstraction layer for diverse POS, payment, and CCTV systems
  • Led development team at ORKA Solutions through 12-month project lifecycle
  • Implemented mobile manager app for real-time operations oversight
  • Created AR marketing character feature for customer engagement
  • Managed phased rollout and staff training for digital transformation

Challenges & Solutions
Technical

Challenge

Client had no digital systems - everything was pen and paper, requiring complete process redesign

Solution

Developed comprehensive training program and phased rollout strategy, working with each department to digitize their specific workflows

Impact

Successfully transitioned entire organization from analog to digital operations

Architecture

Challenge

7-8 branches across Egypt need consistent data but face potential connectivity issues in some locations

Solution

Designed offline-first architecture where each branch operates independently when disconnected, with intelligent synchronization when connectivity restored

Impact

Ensured business continuity regardless of internet reliability at any branch

Integration

Challenge

Different branches had various POS systems, payment machines, and CCTV equipment from different vendors

Solution

Created hardware abstraction layer that normalizes different device APIs into consistent interface

Impact

Unified system works seamlessly with diverse hardware across all locations

The Story

Situation

Khan AlHussien, an Egyptian hypermarket chain with 7-8 branches, was operating entirely on pen-and-paper systems. The second generation of family ownership wanted to modernize but faced prohibitive quotes from German ERP vendors. They needed a solution that would digitize operations across all branches while remaining affordable for the Egyptian market.

Task

As Technical Lead at ORKA Solutions, Khaled was responsible for architecting and delivering a complete ERP solution that would replace the expensive German alternative while handling the unique challenges of multi-branch retail in Egypt, including unreliable internet connectivity and diverse hardware across locations.

Action

Khaled designed an offline-first architecture that allowed each branch to operate independently during connectivity issues while synchronizing seamlessly when online. He created a hardware abstraction layer to normalize the different POS systems, payment machines, and CCTV equipment across branches. The mobile manager app provided owners with real-time visibility into sales, operations, and staffing across all locations. An innovative AR marketing character was added to drive customer engagement and social media sharing. The 12-month project included comprehensive staff training to ensure successful adoption.

Result

Khan AlHussien successfully transformed from pen-and-paper operations to a fully digital enterprise. The ERP system connected all 7-8 branches with real-time data synchronization while remaining operational during connectivity issues. The solution delivered significant cost savings compared to the German vendor quote while providing features tailored to the local market. This became the largest and most complex ERP project in ORKA Solutions' portfolio.
